Richard 2019.jpg

I picked up a camera in 1968 when I was 13 and have been attached to one ever since. My early work was a documentary approach to everyday life, and more recent work of the past 25 years are attempts to better appreciate the landscape. Throughout, I have always been fascinated by the invisible things that find their way into a photograph.

From 1985 to 2013 I also had a career as an ophthalmic photographer. In addition to working with patients, I enjoyed using the tools of diagnostic imaging to help make the invisible visible for ophthalmology.

I continued to make and exhibit artwork during that career, and upon retiring from ophthalmic photography in 2013, I now live on Chebeague Island, Maine, and continue to work again full-time as an artist.
